What is a loss assessor?

A Loss Assessor is appointed by the policyholder to represent their interests in making a claim on their Insurance policy.  It is the Loss Assessor’s job to make sure you get your full entitlement from Insurers in relation to the damage to your home or property.

The Loss Assessor will manage your claim from start to finish and take away the stress of dealing with Insurers and their nominated Loss Adjuster.

What is a loss adjuster?

The Loss Adjuster is appointed by the Insurance company to review your claim and make savings for Insurers.  As their name suggests, it is the Adjuster’s job to “adjust” your claim and reduce the settlement figure for Insurers.

What is a Policy Excess?

A Policy Excess is the first amount which you must incur before a claim can be made on your policy.  A policy excess is usually between €250 and €750 and is deducted from your settlement figure.

How do I know if I can make a claim?

Your home or business insurance policy provides cover for all kinds of incidents (Insured Perils) which may cause damage to your property.  These Insured Perils are all laid out in your policy booklet.  However, these booklets can be complicated and confusing.  As experienced Loss Assessors, we can provide a free review and advise if a claim is possible in your case.

What is an Insured Peril?

In insurance terms, an Insured Peril is an “event” which causes damage to your home or property.  These Insured Perils include events such as Fire, Flood, Storm, Theft, Escape of Water (water damage), Malicious Damage, Accidental Damage, Subsidence, etc. 
There are many more perils listed in the policy booklet, each with their own exclusions and limits.  It is important to understand which peril applies to your claim and the small print of the policy.

What does a Loss Assessor charge?

A Loss Assessor will generally charge you a percentage of the settlement figure.  This is usually 10% plus VAT and most assessors will operate on a no settlement, no fee basis.
