Damage from burst pipes is main reason for home insurance claims

A recent article by the Irish Independent confirms what we at Bedford Loss Assessors see week in, week out — leaks and burst pipes are the leading cause of home insurance claims.
While Peopl Insurance Ltd. reports that 40% of their claims relate to what's known in the industry as "Escape of Water", our experience paints a clearer — and wetter — picture: At least 80% of the claims we manage are the result of water damage.
The extent of this damage can vary widely, as can the final settlement amounts from insurers. Based on 2024 cases, our average claim settlement for water damage was approximately €18,000.
