If you haven’t read Part One yet, you can find it on our blog page.

In the first part of this blog, I outlined the importance of documenting damage to both the contents and structure of your home. We also covered the need to bring in the right experts to support your claim, including fire damage specialists like Aidan O’Connell and Associates and experienced contractors such as Optire Limited, who have a proven track record in rebuilding fire-damaged homes.

With a strong team in place, we were able to strip away the fire and smoke-damaged sections of the house, allowing for a more thorough inspection. This process helped us determine which parts of the property could be salvaged and what needed to be replaced or upgraded to meet current building regulations.

Throughout the process, we maintained open communication with the Insurance Company’s Adjuster, ensuring full transparency while preserving the insurer’s position.

Once the assessment was complete, I compiled a detailed buildings claim in the form of a comprehensive Bill of Quantities. This was supported by our engineer’s report and presented to the Insurance Company’s Adjuster for review.

By maintaining close communication with the insurer’s adjuster and engineer throughout the process, our claim submission contained no surprises. This proactive approach helped facilitate swift and trouble-free settlement negotiations. It also helps when dealing with an Adjuster and Insurance Company that understands that this is a family home and worked in a steadfast manner to settle the claim as quick as possible.

Now that the strip-out of the property is nearly complete, the insured’s contractor has begun the process of rebuilding their home.

Hopefully, in the coming months we can share our final blog in this series with the Insured back in their fully reinstated home.
